Heat and Power UK

Immingham Combined Heat & Power PlantImmingham Combined Heat and Power (ICHP) plant is one of the greenest power stations in the world generating 730 megawatts of electricity. The development of ICHP has made a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in the United Kingdom and is capable of savings of up to 3 million tonnes per year when compared to power produced from conventional coal fired power production, and separate production of heat. The plant is fuelled by natural gas with liquid fuel as backup. It produces electricity and creates steam, which is used by the nearby Humber and Lindsey refineries.

Immingham CHP began commercial operation in 2004 and is one of the cleanest most efficient power plants of its type in Europe. It uses 20 percent less fuel and produces 25 percent less CO2 than the alternative of producing heat and power separately.
