Process Engineer
Learn more about me and why I joined ConocoPhillips:
I applied for the ConocoPhillips summer placement scheme in Aberdeen after attending a recruitment event at Strathclyde University. Following a successful interview, I started my 12-week placement on the Britannia Satellites (BritSats) project. During this period, I completed various challenging and interesting tasks contributing to the project delivery. The highlights of my placement were the offshore survival training course and visiting the Britannia platform.
Shortly after returning to university for my final year, I was offered a graduate position with ConocoPhillips in Aberdeen. Based on my experience during the summer placement, I instantly accepted this offer and focused on my final year with the knowledge that I had secured a graduate position with an excellent company.

In my first year, I completed several quarterly placements working in different departments to learn more about the company and to begin determining my career aspirations. In these placements I worked in onshore operations support on several UK assets and was fortunate enough to move to Norway for three months to work in well operations.
Following these placements I moved into the Southern North Sea (SNS) team as the Viking Bravo facilities engineer. In this role I was the process engineering focal point responsible for providing daily operational support to the offshore crews on the Viking Bravo platform. My other responsibilities included initiating and managing minor projects and identifying and implementing workscopes to improve the operating efficiency of the asset. This role provided me with significant responsibility early in my career and regular offshore visits.
Following this, I wanted to gain experience in process engineering design and moved to the role of process engineer on the Britannia long-term compression (LTC) project. Here I am seconded to work for the engineering contractor to complete various process engineering deliverables providing me with excellent technical engineering challenges.

Life At ConocoPhillips
In my time with the company, I have worked on onshore operations support, project management and process optimisation whilst in the SNS. I have also gained experience working on front end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design on the Britannia LTC Project. I have also attended several external training courses on specific subjects to improve my knowledge of equipment and processes applicable to my day-to-day tasks.
With ConocoPhillips, I have always had the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging workscopes allowing me to develop and improve my process engineering skills and knowledge. Any external training courses I have asked to attend have always been fully supported. I believe the company has put me in an excellent position to gain my engineering chartership with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in the near future.

I am planning to stay on the Britannia long-term compression project until completion in 2013. Within this I want to continue working in process engineering detailed design before moving on to commissioning to gain practical, hands-on experience to broaden my engineering knowledge and skills. On completion of the project, I would like to complete an international assignment with ConocoPhillips to experience working in a different country. Back to top
