Environmental First for Yara Industrial and ConocoPhillips

October 2006

Immingham based Yara Industrial, and ConocoPhillips have established the first “on the road” AdBlue facility in our region at the Jet Refinery Filling Station, Killingholme. The installation coincides with the introduction on October 1st of new legislation to limit harmful emissions from heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

Euro IV regulations mean that all HGVs registered after 1st October 2006, will be designed to produce less polluting exhaust fumes. To achieve this, the majority of vehicles will use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), a technology that removes oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust system. Adblue is a high quality urea solution that will be carried on SCR vehicles and “injected” into the exhaust system to allow the catalyst to operate.

The new installation at the Jet Refinery Filling Station, means that existing and new customers of the site will be able to fill up with Air 1, the brand name for AdBlue manufactured by Yara, and delivered by its partner Brenntag.

ConocoPhillips recognised that there will be an increasing demand for the product as haulage companies replace their fleets. “The Jet Refinery Filling Station at Killingholme is an ideal location for Air1 as we have large numbers of HGVs visiting the site as they leave the Immingham Docks” said Geoff Patching “we’re pleased to be able to offer an environmentally friendly product supplied by a local company.”

Air 1 Business Manager, Paul Norman, agrees: “This is a unique opportunity for our business to benefit from a new market driven by legislation that will have a real benefit to our environment.”

Yara is the largest producer of Urea in Europe and is manufacturing Air 1 AdBlue at a factory in the Netherlands. The company has an agreement with chemical distributor Brenntag to provide distribution across Europe. The UK market will be supplied from bulk storage facilities at Yara’s Immingham site
