Improving Safety

Personal Safety Involvement

The personal safety involvement (PSI) programme in ConocoPhillips’ North Sea Business Unit is an important tool in the journey towards zero injuries and undesirable incidents on our operations. It is a tool for all employees, both staff and contractors. The initiative has been running for around five years, and in this time approximately 11,000 people have attended PSI workshops/training.

People, attitudes and behaviour put people at the heart of safety improvement efforts. PSI is designed to combine these elements and to bring the company closer to its goal of zero unintentional incidents. It is a simple, people-focused programme, which uses actors and drama to stimulate meaningful safety conversations.

Process Safety

Process safetySafe and environmentally conscious operations begin with the incorporation of process safety management in our planning, design and execution of our operations. Process safety includes activities from initial design through to operating procedures – all aimed at preventing loss of containment, fires, explosions, major accidents and outcomes that put our facilities at risk.

ConocoPhillips has committed significant resources to manage process safety initiatives. Our strategy in the North Sea Business Unit is to apply process safety and loss prevention techniques to assure the fitness-for-purpose of all our assets over their lifecycle.
