Finance LeadLearn more about me and why I joined ConocoPhillips:
When I left college, I joined a local accounting practice where I studied for my accounting technician course and then for my professional accounting exams. I subsequently joined a leisure group then worked at a plastic extrusion plant. After this I had the opportunity to move up to the role of controller with a 1,300 mega-watt joint venture gas-fired power station before joining another company as finance manager. Before joining ConocoPhillips, I worked as a controller for an airline company.
I decided to join ConocoPhillips as I saw the opportunity to work for a company that was able to offer me stability. In terms of my role at the Immingham Combined Heat and Power Plant (ICHP)adjacent to Humber refinery, I believe I am able to bring relevant sector and practical experience to the company.

I am currently finance lead for ICHP. The role is broad and involves many areas of the business including working on long-term business plans, business presentations and meeting corporate reporting requirements. The business unit is currently going through its annual budget process in which I play a key role developing a long-term business plan and related presentations.
I enjoy working in a friendly, professional team at ConocoPhillips. I have found the company to have an open culture with many employees willing to go out of their way to help you. An example would be clarification of accounting issues such as the treatment of the commissioning costs in the construction of the second phase of the power station.

The Humber refinery finance section has established a knowledge sharing scheme for the team. They have presented many topics to enhance knowledge and assist qualified staff meet their continued professional development (CPD) requirements. As part of this I made a presentation to the team on ICHP and power generation.
In my first six months, I have already been involved in several new and exciting areas. I have had many opportunities to deliver presentations and expand my network and have appreciated the chance to continue to develop and enhance my portfolio of skills.

I can see there is potential to develop my career within ConocoPhillips. There are a variety of career paths offering opportunities to broaden and acquire new skills. As I am relatively new to the company I do not want to lock myself into a specific route or option but would look at opportunities that would work well for me, my family and of course the company. Ideally I would like my next role to be as broad-based as my current one but perhaps within a different business area.
