Process EngineerLearn more about me and why I joined ConocoPhillips:
After finishing university, I started my career in the chemical industry. This let me develop experience in solids and toxic gas processes, but I wanted to expand my experience in liquids and hydrocarbon processes. The role at ConocoPhillips excited me. It provided me with scope for development and had the challenge I was looking for.

My role involves providing process engineering support in the areas of plant optimisation, plant trouble shooting, hazard studies, process safety, environmental, energy conservation and process aspects of plant modifications and projects. I carry out feasibility studies and upfront process/project work for projects. I prepare information for the Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) and control of Major Accident Hazard (COMAH) safety cases.
My current process engineering work mainly revolves around minor plant modifications, making sure these are the optimum design before installation and also ensuring the modifications are safe. My process safety work also focuses on developing leading and lagging safety indicators for the site and implementing the latest guidance from the U.K. Health and Safety Executive on plant safety. This means that I network with the process safety management team who are predominantly in the United States.
What I like most is the diverse variety of things to do, which allows me to interact with different people whilst building upon my experience.

ConocoPhillips has provided me with the opportunity to learn about process safety on the job and as well as through training. I had the chance to arrange my own shadowing days with operations to find out how the plant operates. I have also made visits to other sites to build a bigger picture of the company.
I have the autonomy to be as creative as I like with my work. I’ve worked on re-designing procedures for site safety and hazards and have contributed to saving people, time and money. I have also worked on our IPPC permit with the Environment Agency; which has enabled me to broaden my skills.

This is my first opportunity to work in a dynamic and exciting organisation and I am keen to develop my career with the company. Although I originally set my career path as a process engineer, there are opportunities for me in to develop into other roles. For the time being, I enjoy my currently role and existing projects.
