22 June 2023: Important Update About Capita’s Cyber Security Incident

In our May 24th announcement (below) we provided important information about the cyber incident involving Capita Pension Solutions Limited (“Capita”), our former pension administrator of the ConocoPhillips Pension Plan (the “Plan”).  We noted that the incident resulted in a data breach of their systems and that some of our member data may have been compromised.

Members who were identified at that time as being directly impacted were promptly notified through written correspondence from Malcolm Rice-Jones, Chairman of ConocoPhillips Pension Plan Trustees Limited. Based on the initial information received from Capita, we outlined the implications of the incident while noting that Capita’s forensic investigations were ongoing.

Capita has informed us that their internal investigation is now complete. Regrettably, Capita has confirmed that all members of the Plan are impacted, and that further data was contained within the exfiltrated filesConsequently, all members of the Plan can expect to receive further communication from Malcolm Rice-Jones in the coming days outlining the elements of member data at risk.

Capita has offered to provide members with identity protection services, free of charge for a twelve-month period, to help mitigate potential risks resulting from the Incident. This service will be extended to all Plan members and details on how members can activate their free membership are contained within the Chairman’s letter that members should receive shortly.

We have updated the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for further details of the incident provided by Capita, including the additional types of data that may have been affected. Please review the FAQs as the central resource to provide you with the most up-to-date information about the incident. We will continue to update the FAQs with any additional information we receive, prior to the independent review of Capita’s investigation by a specialist 3rd party being complete.  This is expected to conclude next month.

To reiterate our earlier message, we want to assure you that we recognize the importance of providing clarity and protection to all our members. If you have any specific questions that are not addressed here, please call HR Connections on +44 (0)808 234 1519 between 14:00 and 23:00 BST, Monday to Friday. We sincerely apologize for what has occurred as a result of Capita’s incident. Your privacy and security remain our top priority and we are working to ensure the protection of your data.

24 May 2023: Important Information About Capita’s Cyber Security Incident

We were recently informed by Capita Pension Solutions Limited (“Capita”), the former pension administrator of the ConocoPhillips Pension Plan (the “Plan”), that it experienced a cyber incident which resulted in a data breach of its systems (“Incident”).

Capita confirmed on 18 May 2023 that some of our Plan members’ data may have been compromised as a result of the Incident. We understand that this was limited to certain members’ personal data as our pension information is primarily held on Capita’s technology platform, Hartlink, which was not impacted. It is important to note, however, that Capita’s investigation is ongoing, and we will not know the full extent of impact to our data until the investigation has been completed.

Members who were directly impacted have been promptly notified through written correspondence from Malcolm Rice-Jones, Chairman of ConocoPhillips Pension Plan Trustees Limited, outlining the implications of the Incident and they have been provided with additional support to safeguard their data.

Whilst this news is most unfortunate, we are proactively engaged with Capita to obtain additional details regarding the Incident. As part of its remedial measures, Capita has advised that it will offer impacted members identity protection services, free of charge for a twelve-month period, to help mitigate potential risks resulting from the Incident. Once we receive details of these services, we will share them with you.

We have prepared a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that address the details of the Incident, the types of data that may have been affected, and the steps taken by Capita to mitigate the situation. Please review the FAQs as the central resource to provide you with the most up-to-date information about the Incident. We will update the FAQs link as we learn more.

We want to assure you that we recognize the importance of providing clarity and protection to all our members.
